Kia ora, I’m Sam.
I’m a wayfinding designer, cartographer, data analyst, and transport planner, working at Maynard Design.
During my time at university, I never planned to pursue design or transport planning as a career; I was very much focused on maths. But I still loved to make maps and dabble in information design, so this website started as a hobby (or as a means of study procrastination).
By getting my work out online (and being way too online on Twitter), I was able to work on some super projects, like Whanganui’s bus map, gig tour posters, and an entire book on New Zealand’s passenger rail history. These projects led to mapping, information design, and transport analysis becoming my full time job.
This website is now a mixture of a portfolio, collected ramblings, and small and large bits and bobs of mapping. There’s a number of projects that aren’t quite ready to share — but I’m really excited to put them up here soon!
